Owned by your family since time immemorial, kept in your safe for years – and all of a sudden, your beloved Patek Philippe is gone. Your wrist survived the accident unscathed – the Rolex you had just treated yourself to did not. Unfortunately, your Cartier is less waterproof than it is beautiful. Fortunately, there is insurance that covers loss and damage like this.
Why should I insure my watch?
Luxury watches are not only a sign of taste and style; they are also a considerable investment, and repairs are correspondingly expensive. Restoring a Rolex Submariner or an Omega Speedmaster to their full glory can easily cost hundreds or even thousands of francs. And if the watch is lost completely due to theft, the costs are much higher.
For this reason, it is worth taking out special insurance that at least covers the financial loss incurred. Of course, it can never alleviate the emotional impact of losing a beloved heirloom, but perhaps it can provide for one or two sparkling consolations.
How do I insure my watch correctly?
Despite usually being worn on your wrist, your watch is part of your household contents. Just like your favourite mug, your washing machine and your glass display case, it is insured against fire and water damage and theft via your household contents insurance.
However, with traditional household contents insurance, the sum insured is usually too low to replace your collector’s item, and loss and damage for which the owner is at fault are excluded.
Valuables or single-item insurance is therefore an excellent solution. It gives your luxury watch all-round protection against all types of damage – even those that you cause yourself in a moment of carelessness. And if you wish, you can also insure the loss or disappearance of your timepiece. This makes our single-item policy the ideal form of insurance for your watch.

When does watch insurance pay out?
Rolex watches may be robust, but they are not indestructible. And collectors are not the only people who covet Richard Mille timepieces. The following table shows the situations in which our watch insurance covers loss or damage to your timepiece – and those in which it does not.

When travelling, you should keep your jewellery and watches in a locked safe at your hotel if you are not wearing them. At home, it is advisable to keep collections worth more than CHF 100,000 in a certified safe.
How much does it cost to insure a watch?
A Rolex Day Date is usually more expensive than a Rolex Submariner. The premiums for watch insurance vary, too. They depend on the following factors:
- The value of your watch: the more it is worth, the higher the premium
- The number of watches you own: a single timepiece is cheaper than a whole collection
- The additional cover you want: if loss is to be insured, the premium will go up
With our single-item and valuables insurance, you can specify which favourite item you would like to cover and how, entirely according to your needs.
