A second of inattention, and it happens: your neighbour's new laptop is lying broken on the floor. Mishaps like this can happen to anyone. In a worst-case scenario, they can even cause injury to other people. Our liability insurance takes care of the loss that is incurred.
Full cover
Everyone suffers mishaps from time to time, especially when you lead a full life. Our personal liability insurance steps in when you unintentionally cause damage or injury to others – with cover of up to CHF 5 million, or even up to CHF 10 million on request, and no deductible.

Multi-person policy

Mum, dad, a child, granny, the family dog... Regardless of who causes a loss, everyone who lives in the same household can be insured.
Personal injury
While sprinting to catch your train, you accidentally knock over an elderly gentleman. He ends up in hospital, and you have to foot the bill. Luckily our liability insurance also covers personal injury – regardless of whether you are travelling on foot, by bicycle or e-bike, or on your snowboard.
Damage/loss to property in your custody
Be it a drill, a camera or a barbecue – everyone tries especially hard to look after items they have borrowed. And if something happens despite your efforts, our personal liability insurance will cover the costs of repairs or replacement.

Tenant damage

The poker falls from the fireplace on to the parquet flooring, leaving a deep scratch. There's no need to worry: our personal liability insurance covers damage that you cause as a tenant.
Claims against you as the owner
A passer-by slips in front of your house. A branch falls onto the roof of your neighbour's home. If something happens and you can be held liable in your capacity as owner, we will cover the costs.
Animal and dog owner's liability
Your cat, your dog, your mouse and your chameleon are all covered automatically. Some municipalities require proof of insurance for dogs. You can order one by calling 058 358 71 11.

For example, our personal liability insurance offers special add-ons for people whose biggest passion is flying model aircraft or drones. We also have a product for hunters.

Standard third-party driver cover
If you only borrow cars from friends on an occasional basis, this is the option for you. However, it does not include car sharing or regular driving of third-party vehicles.
Premium third-party driver cover including car sharing
Regardless of who it's from, how long it's for and where you are travelling: with this cover you can drive borrowed cars up to a maximum of 3.5 tonnes without any restrictions. This also applies to car sharing. And to all boats with Swiss licence plates.

Personal liability cover isn't mandatory in Switzerland, but it is one of the most important types of insurance. It covers damage and personal injury that you cause to other people and third-party property. Your landlord or landlady may therefore require personal liability insurance as a precondition for being able to rent their apartment.
Since 2022, personal liability insurance has been mandatory for winter sports activities in South Tyrol and the rest of Italy. Anyone who skis without valid insurance is committing an offence subject to a fine of between 100 and 150 euros. It is also compulsory to carry proof of insurance with you on Italian pistes. The easiest way to do so is to download a PDF copy of your contract from your customer portal and carry it round with you on your smartphone. Alternatively, you can take a physical copy of your policy with you onto the ski slopes.
Yes, partners can be insured in the other person's policy. The second policy can be cancelled.
Generally, there is only one personal liability insurance policy for the same household. It normally does not cover loss or damage that occurs within this household. For incidents like this, it is worth taking out comprehensive cover for electrical equipment or all risks cover to go with your household contents insurance.
You do not need to change your personal liability policy for most pets like cats and dogs as liability claims caused by animals are included in the basic insurance.
Multi-person policies generally cover children who are not in employment – even if they do not live in the same household as the policyholder. Apprentices' wages and gross annual salaries of up to CHF 20,000 earned by students do not count as income from employment. In these cases, therefore, you do not need to take out your own personal liability policy.
In general, your personal liability insurance is sufficient. It also covers losses that you can be held liable for as the owner of a single-family home or an apartment building. A requirement for this is that you are living in the property yourself and are using it exclusively for residential purposes. This also applies to owners of apartments and in the case of condominiums.
However, if you would also like to insure damage to your house or apartment, it is advisable to take out buildings insurance. This will cover the costs of water damage or broken windows, for example – and depending on the canton, fire and natural hazard damage as well.
Generally, riding other people's horses is not covered by your personal liability insurance. We offer an appropriate supplementary option for this. Your advisor will be happy to help.
