AT A GLANCE
  • Whether it’s borrowed or purchased, high-tech or standard – every hearing aid can be insured comprehensively.
  • With valuables insurance, you can even insure your hearing aid against loss and disappearance.
  • When trying out a hearing aid, you are covered by your personal liability insurance.

You have just returned from a jog in the woods – unfortunately your hearing aid has not. You have just taken a long hot shower – unfortunately your hearing aid has, too. Modern hearing aids are very helpful, but they are also ery expensive – especially if they break or get lost. That is why they should be properly insured.

Small, complex and expensive – modern hearing aids are technically sophisticated and sensitive. They are priceless because they help you to take an active part in life every day, but they are also pricey. This makes loss or damage particularly annoying – and expensive. Neither your health insurer, your disability insurance nor your accident insurance will pay for any loss or damage. And a new hearing aid can cost up to CHF 3,500.

The federal disability insurance (IV) or the old-age and survivors’ insurance (AHV) cover part of the costs of the initial purchase in Switzerland, provided that the hearing aid has been prescribed by a doctor. However, replacements can only be funded once every five to six years – depending on the social security provider. Your hearing aid is not automatically insured against all risks after you buy it.

GOOD TO KNOW

In the event of an accident, the Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund will pay for the initial purchase. In some cases, other institutions like the military will do so, too. Private supplementary insurance policies will cover the remaining costs or at least contribute to them. It’s worth asking your health insurer about this as the insurance coverage for hearing aids varies enormously.

The problem is the same, but the purchase changes everything. A different insurance policy will come into play depending on whether you are still trying out your hearing aid or have already bought it.

A moment of inattention and the hearing aid falls to the ground in front of your feet. With borrowed devices, this is a case for your personal liability insurance. This covers the costs of loss or damage that occurs while you are renting or trying out a hearing aid.

GOOD TO KNOW

Damage to a hearing aid with a rental, purchase or lease contract is not a case for your personal liability insurance. If you would like to have these hearing aids covered, we recommend that you take out valuables/single-item insurance.

You’re still getting used to it – and after a bike ride, you discover that your brand new purchased or leased hearing aid is no longer there. Your  valuables or single-item insurance  will pay for losses for which you or a third party is at fault –  and, on request, for loss or disappearance, too.

GOOD TO KNOW

Some hearing aids have a search function and can be found in this way.

Although your household contents insurance covers the costs of fire, natural hazards and water damage or theft, it does not cover other types of loss or damage – and these are the most common losses with hearing aids. That’s what hearing aid cover via our valuables and single-item insurance is for – and it’s really worth having.

If you would like to protect not only your hearing aids but all electrical devices against damage, our comprehensive electrical appliance insurance is a useful addition to your household contents insurance.

GOOD TO KNOW

With our household contents all risks insurance, you protect not only your electrical devices but your entire household contents against loss and damage – regardless of who caused it.

The more expensive the technology, the more painful the loss. Hearing aids come in many models and price ranges: from entry-level to premium models, prices range from CHF 300 to CHF 3,500 and more. Often, one hearing aid is needed for each ear, doubling the cost of the devices – and making appropriate insurance all the more worthwhile.

These examples give you an idea of how much comprehensive cover with valuables insurance* (including loss/disappearance) costs:

  • The WIDEX unique330-FS model costs CHF 2,500 – you can insure this from CHF  120 per year (including loss).
  • Signia Active X Silver Hero/Black hearing aids with a total value of CHF 5,600 can be insured for an annual premium of around CHF 250 (including loss).
GOOD TO KNOW

If you combine valuables and single-item insurance with our Allianz household contents insurance, you will receive a 10% combined discount.

*You can insure individual valuable items with us from a replacement value of CHF 500.

You can ride your bike, ski, hike and generally lead an active life with peace of mind if your hearing aids are comprehensively insured. Our valuables and single-item insurance also covers them against loss and theft.
